The Analysis

⚠️ Caution: This app claims to be self-custodial and claims to provide the 12-word seed phrase. We could not locate options pertaining to these. It held an ICO and required a sponsor ID when signing up. It also claims to support BTC, but the BTC address can only receive and convert to Xerium. It cannot send BTC.

The App

The app first requires registration with the following information: phone and email. They also required a mandatory field called a “Sponsor ID”. Which we searched for online.

Once we got in the app, we tried looking for the private keys or the 12-word seed phrase backup. We could not locate these options. Most of the options were focused on “commissions” and referrals relating to the ICO they held.

Verdict

When we registered on the phone, we realized that we could sign in with the same credentials on their website. We believe that account information is retained on their end. There is a BTC wallet and it is possible to store BTC inside it. It can be converted to Xerium. Withdrawals and transfers can also only be via Xerium. We could not locate the send function for BTC. We were also not able to find the private key and the 12-word seed phrase that they claimed existed. We asked them on twitter @Xerium3 to verify.

Until proven otherwise, we had difficulty giving this app a verdict because it can receive and hold BTC. But it can only convert the BTC to Xerium. It functions as a limited BTC wallet that can receive, but not send.

Verdict Explained

The product can't send or receive BTC.

As part of our Methodology, we ask:

Can it send and receive bitcoins?

If the answer is "no", we mark it as "Can't send or receive bitcoins".

If it is for holding BTC but you can’t actually send or receive them with this product then it doesn’t function like a wallet for BTC but you might still be using it to hold your bitcoins with the intention to convert back to fiat when you “cash out”.

All products in this category are custodial and thus funds are at the mercy of the provider.

But we also ask:

Was the product updated during the last year?

If the answer is "no", we mark it as "Not updated in a while".

Bitcoin wallets are complex products and Bitcoin is a new, advancing technolgy. Projects that don’t get updated in a year are probably not well maintained.

This verdict may not get applied if the provider is active and expresses good reasons for not updating the product.

The product cannot be independently verified. If the provider puts your funds at risk on purpose or by accident, you will probably not know about the issue before people start losing money. If the provider is more criminally inclined he might have collected all the backups of all the wallets, ready to be emptied at the press of a button. The product might have a formidable track record but out of distress or change in management turns out to be evil from some point on, with nobody outside ever knowing before it is too late.
